Open House
Just a reminder that our Open House will be tonight, September 26, from 6-7 p.m. We have been working hard to prepare our room for that night and I will have a schedule to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences available. There will be 3 different food trucks in the parking lot as an option for dinner as well! Tiger Pride Our first Tiger Pride Assembly is this Friday, September 27 at 2:30 p.m. Families are welcome to attend. There are chairs set up for parents in the cafeteria, and students will sit with the class. Our assemblies usually last until 3:15. If you choose to come, you are welcome to take your child with you after the assembly. Taking them after the assembly does not count against attendance. If you are taking your child home from the assembly, students will walk back to the library with Coach Boone (they are in PE when the assembly begins) and you can let Coach Boone know you are taking them home. The class takes their backpacks with them to PE on assembly days, so you will not need to walk down to our classroom for their things. Please email me or send a note to let me know you are taking your child with you so that I know where they are as well. Let me know if you have questions! Parent Teacher Conferences Parent Teacher conferences are around the corner. I will be looking forward to visiting with you about your child's progress at school! Please feel free to sign up now for a conference time, or there will be a sign up sheet in our classroom at Open House. Thanks! Please click HERE to sign up (if you have trouble just email me the time you prefer and I will add it to the schedule). Seesaw I sent home a letter with sign up instructions attached for an app we use in the classroom called Seesaw. Your child will be uploading their first learning activity to their journal on Friday. Let me know if you have any questions on how to sign up. Rest Time Friday will be our last day for rest time. I will be sending mats home on Friday. If it’s too much for them to carry with the Tiger Pride Assembly, they will come home on Monday. Teachers have started modeling personal goals so that the students can have a better understanding of what a goal is. If you hear your child talking about Mrs. Dickinson’s running goal, they are talking about my personal goal that I am modeling for them. 😊 Math Papers We began Unit 1 in our math curriculum this week. You may have noticed that there are papers coming home daily. Some days we will not get to all of the problems. There is homework stapled to the back of each lesson. This is completely optional to do at home for extra practice. I do not need these sent back to school. Ask your child about… *Counting and recognizing 1, 2, 3 *Expectations and stamina during Writer’s Workshop *Writing and telling stories (drawing a picture and beginning to label things in the picture with the first letter sound) *Read to Self (the first part of the Daily 5) The Daily Five is a literacy structure that allows for differentiation in the classroom. It is an integrated literacy instruction for use in reading workshop. It is a system of five literacy tasks that teaches students independence. *3 ways to read a book *Letters J, K, L, M *Being proactive and ways they can be proactive at home and at school We had a great first week in kindergarten! I am sure there were some tired children this weekend! It's definitely a long day for this age group for the first several weeks of school. I am enjoying getting to know each student a little bit more each day.
We have been busy learning rules (class promises), procedures, and a little bit about each other. Here are a few other things we learned and discussed this week:
Snack Helpers (we have 18 students in class) Monday- Grayson Tuesday- Natalie Wednesday- Brooklynn Thursday- Jackson Friday-No School Rest Time If you sent a towel for rest time, I will send those home on Fridays to wash. Please send them back on the following Monday. I disinfect mats each Friday as well. P.E. Day We have P.E. on Fridays. I would suggest having your child wear tennis shoes every Friday. There is a link to our class schedule and special classes on the blog. Class Facebook Page If you are interested in joining our class Facebook page, here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/441159836475952/?ref=bookmarks This is where I will post pictures of our class throughout the year. If you DO NOT want your child's picture posted, please let me know. Classroom Wish List There are a few items we would love to have donated to use in our classroom this year. Please click HERE if you are interested in donating any of these items. Thank you! T-Shirts At Meet the Teacher, you received an order form for school t-shirts. Those are shirts that everyone wears on Fridays and we usually try to have students wear them on field trip days. Please do not feel obligated to buy one, but I just wanted to let you know when we wear them in case you were not sure what they were for. Necklaces We will continue using bus necklaces only next week. If your child is a bus rider, please send these back for one more week until students learn the bus they ride. Thank you! Hello!
I am looking forward to sharing this year with you and your child! I want to be as much help to you as possible. Below is information that will help prepare your student for the beginning of kindergarten. Kindergarten School Supply List (This is a little different than the list you will find at the store. I have a lot of markers and tissues, so I took those off and added a couple of items that will be beneficial to our classroom!) 1 pair of blunt tip scissors* 1 package of pencils (Ticonderoga brand, preferably. They cost a little more, but last SO much longer.) 1 small school box* 1 pink wedge eraser 1 package of Expo brand Dry Erase Markers 1 1-inch 3 ring binder* 1 pair of headphones (no earbuds-these are really hard for the kids to keep in their ears)* 1 rest mat OR towel (please be conscious of size)* -no sleeping bags, stuffed animals, or pillows please 1 Spiral notebook* 1 yellow highlighter 4 glue sticks (no liquid glue, please) 4 boxes of crayons (24 count) 3 plastic pocket folders (2 red, 1 blue) 1 container of Lysol/Clorox wipes *please label these supplies only I have a private classroom Facebook page that I would love to have you join! I post pictures of things we are busy doing throughout the school year on this page. (class party pics, assemblies, class pics, etc...) I want you to feel as much a part of our room as possible! If you would like to join the closed group page (no one will see these pictures beside us), search "Mrs. Dickinson’s Kindergarten 2019-2020" on Facebook. If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I will send you an invite through email. You will fill out a form at the beginning of the school year asking if your child can be on the internet. If you choose "no", I will not post pictures of your child. MEET THE TEACHER Tuesday, August 12th 6:00-7:00 Come and see our classroom and drop off school supplies! Bringing supplies early will help make the first day a little less stressful for everyone. You can leave your child in our classroom and then go to the gym for an informational meeting. The goal of this short meeting is to make the start of kindergarten go smoothly and answer any questions you may have. I am excited to meet you and your child!! We have had a great start to our 2nd week of summer school! Today, Ms. Emily from the library came to visit and read 3 books along with singing some songs with the kids. They really enjoyed it! If you are on the Facebook page, you should be able to see some pictures of our day. This afternoon, we will be enjoying our Frosty’s!
On Friday, A.M. Donuts will be in the parking lot from 6:30-8:00 AM. You may enjoy donuts with your child before school, but we will not be going to the truck as a class. Have a great week! We are having a great first week in Kindergarten! We are spending a lot of time learning the expectations at school. By the end of summer school, we will have learned all 26 letters and our numbers to 10.
We are working on one letter and one number daily. After we have learned our numbers to 10, we will practice our colors and shapes. We have also been practicing counting to 20. We will also be working on writing our names and knowing all of the letters in our names. On Monday, we have the opportunity to have a CHOCOLATE frosty from Wendy’s. If your child would like to participate, please send in 50 cents by Friday. If your child cannot have one, we will have popsicles available or you may send in a snack for them. There will be a note going home tomorrow. I have created a Facebook group where I will try and upload pictures several times a week. If you would like to join, it is titled K Summer School 2019. If you do not want your child's picture on the page, please let me know asap. I have pictures to upload from today. :) Have a great week! Since this will be the last blog post of the year, I wanted to tell you all thank you for such a wonderful school year! You have made my first year at Willard East a great one. I have really enjoyed having all of your kiddos this year and am so grateful I got to have them for their first year of elementary school. Thank you so much for supporting me from home. Also, thank you for making me feel so appreciated last week during Teacher Appreciation Week. I really enjoyed all of the snacks, school supplies and sweet cards!

Permissions slips and money are due tomorrow. Please send both in ASAP. I talked with a representative at Wonders of Wildlife about the field trip, and she said that chaperones are $20 IF they pre-pay with the class. This means that you need to send in your $20 to me ASAP and I will pay for you when I pay for the students. You will NOT get this discount if you try to pay at the doors when we arrive. If you marked that you will not be chaperoning, but changed your mind because of the discounted price, just let me know. It's not too late:) I will be sending a note with detailed information regarding our schedule, where to meet, etc.. to chaperones today or tomorrow. Students will need to wear tennis shoes and their Friday school t-shirt if they have one. This will make it easier to spot who is in our group. You may want to pack a sack lunch with everything that can be thrown away for your child just to make things easier. They will get a sack lunch if you marked "school lunch". We will have coolers on the bus to store lunches. Field Day Field Day is coming! It is scheduled for May 22. There will be a rain make up day if needed. There will be more information coming home when it gets closer. We will go to the track and rotate from station to station and play games Coach F has set up for us, such as Tug of War, water games, sack races... It's a way to celebrate the end of the school year.
